Welcome to all lovers of movies – and TV, especially the good US networks and cable dramas, Brit TV programs, and every Scandinavian show I have seen.
The Take
If you want a tough miniseries from the UK, buy The Take, starring a scary, unforgettable Tom Hardy, and a scarier, quiet merchant of death, baby faced Sean Evans (who plays a gentler character in Endeavour)
My Hunks at Facebook
Visit the “My Hunks” page at Facebook – all film and TV actors I admire – some now sadly gone. Here is one — Benedict Cumberbatch (new Star Trek, Mr Sherlock)
Shadow Dancer
This film, made in Ireland, is a powerful, ultimately devastating picture of a woman who agrees to spy on her IRA compatriots to keep her son. Co Stars Clive Owen and a terrific Andrea Riseborough. It is available at Amazon instant Video now. Opens in the USA on May 31. I highly recommend
Films & TV from my past
I remember….
…Hiding under the movie seat when The Thing [James Arness] was about to lumber onto the screen, crying at the end of Bambi, watching the last film in Cincinnati with my brother before moving to Long Island – [Call Northside 77] – wearing a black arm band when Jame Dean died, and then going to see Giant. Watching my favorite films and TV series over and over again -
How many times have I looked at The Jewel in The Crown? The BBC’s State Of Play? The Crying Game? Lawrence of Arabia? Bridge on The River Kwai? Guinness’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Smiley’s People? — and so many more I hope to recall and discuss here on this blog.
I hope you will join in at the comments section.
Have you seen Broadchurch?
If you are lucky enough to get UK TV shows, you have seen all of the recent series Broadchurch. It starred David Tennant and Olivia Coleman, with a supporting cast of outstanding actors. It will come to BBC America early next year. I know it will grab you from beginning to end.
